New year, new official version

For the new year 2026, a new version of the EXMARaLDA tools has been released!

This version contains new functionality, usability enhancements, and a few bug fixes for all tools. We are happy to say that a part of this work has been made possible by users supporting EXMARaLDA development and maintenance with an EXMARaLDA support licence. If you are using EXMARaLDA, please consider purchasing a support licence for your project, research group or institute.

A full list of changes for the new version can be found here. Feel free to post or comment on issues on GitHub if you discover a bug or have an idea for a feature. Here is an overview of the most important changes in the new official version:

New methods for automatic normalisation in the Partitur Editor and OrthoNormal

The Partitur Editor now includes a new function for adding an automatic normalisation tier. Various profiles are available to determine the standard orthographic forms for a literary transcription.

Many thanks to the KompAS project at the University of Basel for providing the lexicon for Swiss German and to the Mezzanine project for providing the data for Slovenian.

Type lists in EXAKT

In EXAKT, type frequency lists can now be calculated for all annotation tiers when opening a corpus. This makes searching at annotation level easier. Similarly, the available values for each metadata attribute can be compiled for the entire corpus.

New annotation specifications in the Partitur Editor

Additional annotation specifications for various POS tag sets (Universal Dependencies, Penn Tagset for English, POS tag sets for English and French) have been added to the annotation panel of the Partitur-Editor.

Further innovations:

  • In EXAKT, the configuration of the analysis columns can be retained for a new search and/or saved for reuse.
  • Various minor improvements have been made to the DULKO-EXMARaLDA integration.
  • In the Partitur Editor, a way to select annotation blocks and other block-based operations (e.g. block-wise reassignment of speakers) have been added.
  • From the tabular view in the Partitur Editor, the corresponding data can now be exported as a CSV file
  • FOLKER and OrthoNormal now have a fallback option to work without an audio link.
